podcast with matte stephens

i am listening to this podcast on creative thursday with matte stephens right now and it is INCREDIBLE. the questions that marisa (of creative thursday) asks and matte's answers are so unbelievably inspiring. i think i'm going to listen to it again when it's over! or maybe i'll listen the the other 30-odd podcasts that maris has con her site-- if they're anything like this one, i'll have many more opportunities to get all fired up and inspired by the fantastic artists out there!

oh, how i need this! i just saw this bird coat rack posted on design milk, and i am now obsessed with it. yes friends, obsessed. i mist have it. is it not the cutest thing you've ever seen?

seowoo and her pink things

this is amazing. i wish i were so dedicated to just one color. (well, not really, but how fun would it be to have such a monochromatic collection of everything?)

i saw this image on fffound, one of my fave sites as of late, and it was originally on art info. the artist is jeongmee yoon.

painting up a storm

here are a few more new pieces i've done in the last few days... all smallish, all for upcoming shows. the above image is a painting of an onion that ryan and i have had sitting on our counter for a few weeks now that has been growing and sprouting and generally loving not being eaten. ryan tried to throw it away, but i rescued it and brought it into my studio, where it can be drawn and painted to my heart's desire. :)

cool illustrator... peter arkle

i just listened to a podcast interview with illustrator peter arkle by danny gregory, and it was great fun! peter has this great scottish-esque accent, and the interview led me to to visit his website. his work is wonderful! i'm so inspired.

seaspray blue

i think if you spent 24 hours a day on etsy you still would not see everything.
while browsing this morning, i re-found (meaning, i added this shop to my favorites at some point and noticed it again this morning) seaspray blue, and i love these images this morning. i'm ready for a little springtime, so the top image is making me smile today! i feel like i've been wrapped up in a scarf for weeks!

amazing fabric by

i'm making some new pillows for our couch, so i've been scouring the sites this morning (purl soho, repro depot, j caroline...). i found this fabric designed by tina given at j caroline and am drooling over it. it's not right for the pillows, but i'm trying to think of another reason to buy a couple yards of it.

here's the fabric i ended up choosing:

andrew holder

this piece by andrew holder is simply stunning in my book. i love it, plain and simple. it is a 6-color screen-print in an edition of 20, and you can get it right here. it is part of the printed matter show at giant robot in san francisco right now. 54 artists have their work in the show-- you may want to have a looksy!

personality matters

this is a drawing i just finished that is going to be part of a promotion for a book called personality not included that is coming out in april of this year, published by mcgraw-hill.

well, it is not official yet, as i just emailed it to them to get the ok, but i am so excited about the drawing i just had to post it right away!

do you like it? it's a little ridiculous, but i think it' so fun!

color dreaming

if i had a spare $499 i would buy this. for a color obsessed type of girl (like, ahem, me), this would be the most exciting purchase ever. i'm not kidding. 2,058 chromatically arranged solid colors? sign me up.

or, maybe for a day when i have a spare $149, this could do the job as well:

total lunar eclipse

did you see the eclipse last night? what a sight! ryan and i laid out in the yard for about an hour watching as the earth's shadow covered the moon, and it was beautiful. this was the last total lunar eclipse until december 21, 2010, and it was perfectly visible from this southeastern part of the country where ryan and i have found ourselves living these past 6 months.

there will be a total solar eclipse on august 1st of this year; we will see it as a partial eclipse, but read about the eclipse path here-- you might be lucky enough to be living somewhere where you'll see a total eclipse of the sun! (that always reminds me of that part in little shop of horrors when they sing about a total eclipse of the sun, and that's when the crazy plant appears... remember that?)

textiles by bantie

i love all these pieces by swedish textile company bantie. i saw them on oh joy the other day and was instantly in love with the gorgeous fabric, which they tranform into a variety of useful pieces: place mats, lamps, pillows....

their website is really nice, too-- i love how the swedish language looks. i wonder if it's really hard to learn?

christina romeo

did you see these featured on another shade of grey today? oh man, when the page popped up on my screen i about fell over, i *love* these pieces by christina romeo so much. her etsy shop is full of goodies-- whatever you are doing right now, STOP, and go to her shop immediately! i'm not kidding. go.

palindrome press

i am loving these cards by palindrome press today. as i'm sitting here typing with cold fingers, i'm wishing for spring, and these cards are making me wish for it even more!

i especially love the idea behind the ones in the bottom image: in alisha's words they are: "a stack of tactile letterpressed notes just waiting for all of you list-o-philes." well, that's me alright! i loooove making lists. i am a list-making machine!

easter bunnies by onegirl designwrks

now i'm not much of a doll person, but these make me wish i had a little neice or nephew or cousin or something in the family, or a friend with a baby, so i could make them something like this. i think these little easter bunnies are so cute, and not in that gross pink bunny candy easter kind of way. sophisticated cute. :) that flower on the belly button is adorable, no?

i saw them on pinkshirtsandcarwrecks and had to post them here. they are made by leslie in melbourne, australia, who also has a blog (called one girl designwrks, ) and an etsy shop.

and look at this sweet one, straight outta the shop! you've gotta go check it out.

some new work

i am working on a bunch of new pieces for 2 galleries right now: i am part of a 3-person show at artstream gallery in april (specific dates to come) and yes gallery + studio in rhode island (opening in april!), and these first 4 images will give you an idea of what the work is looking like. it is a continuation of the work that i just exhibited at mint gallery here in atlanta-- most of the pieces are smaller (6x8", 8x8", 7x10", etc.), which means they are more affordable, which is good news for everyone!

i have also added quite a few new prints to my etsy shop, so if you are looking for even more affordable artwork, check it out now!
