ok, i am in love with these dishes. they are by rosanna, and i found them on a new (to me) blog called the bedlam of beefy. this collection is called mondo, and i am drooling over it. d-r-o-o-l-i-n-g.

cool blog.. artnlight

one of my favorite blogs these days is artnlight, written by vineeta in mumbai, india. her images are always stunning (and the writing is informative and inspiring), and they make me want to pick and move to india straightaway (or at least go for a long visit.) the top photograph there is taking my breath away right now. too gorgeous for words.......

blue citrus art

i love these polaroids by bluecitrus art. i saw them on maditi's blog, and fell in love instantly. you can see many more of her photos on her flickr page, in her etsy shop, and on her blog.

i want...

some of you may have seen this poster over on lisa congdon's blog (in a photo of a wall in her house), but as i was browsing fffound this morning, i came upon it again, and i love it even more right now. the poster is by anthony burrell (who lives in kent, england), and i just may have to order one of these.

hope you all had a nice weekend! ryan and i went to charlotte, nc to drop off some work at a new gallery (yeee!), and we stayed with renee (you know.... wolfie and the sneak...). best part of the weekend: ROLLER SKATING! i am not kidding. we all went skating on saturday night and it was a blast. i was a roller skating machine when i was a kid, and i'm back in love with it, thanks to renee and charlie. woo!


ryan and i also went to the mint museum of craft and design, so i'll post some pics of that later.

roots and shoots

here is another new drawing, called "roots and shoots." i think spring is on my mind a bit. i noticed yesterday that the days are getting longer, and it made me really happy! i miss taking walks in the evenings right before the sun goes down. i like spring time. it's like everything is sort-of bursting with possibility.

my color palette seems to be changing... more muted. i'm used to using really bright colors, and i'm really enjoying exploring new color combinations. more subtle. yes.

this one will probably make its way to the shop soon...

the altered page-- fun artist survey

i just heard about tastebook, where you can make your own cookbook! this is something i've always wanted to do, and this site makes it super easy. you can add your own photos, create a personal mix of recipes.... the possibilities are endless. i'm loving all these self-publishing options lately, like blurb and iphoto... and now this!

origami

i am thinking about origami this morning.
i want to learn how to make paper cranes.
i read somewhere on some wedding blog (sorry for the vagueness-- i can't remember!) about a couple that had 1000 paper cranes as part of the decoration for their wedding, and as i start to think about planning my own wedding, i really like this idea.

i also like the idea of hand-making paper lanterns.
i will post more about these 2 things soon.

i am not a paper cup... but i look like one

ok, so i just saw this cup. while i appreciate the idea of turning something that people normally throw away and becomes waste that goes directly into landfills into something more permanent and reusable, i am wondering why someone would want to design something that looks exactly like the throw-away version, but is made out of porcelain?

i mean, i get the idea-- it's awesome to reduce, reuse, and recycle-- and it's clever that it looks just like a paper cup, but if i saw someone walking down the street carrying it, i'd just think something like "there goes another person carrying a paper cup." and i know we're not supposed to care what other people think, but i believe you subtlely influence people by the choices you make-- like, people notice when they see someone walking down the street holding a blue (or red, or whatever) travel coffee mug, and maybe it makes them think, "hey, i should use one of those, too, because it's better for the earth." and yes, i'm sure the cup could be a great talking piece while you're standing in line at starbuck's waiting to get your latte poured into it, but i'm just not sure i agree with the message it's giving. i know it's just a cup, but why not make it look like it's not disposable? subtle messages, people. being eco-conscious is cool. we don't have to try to hide it.

{i hope this didn't come off as preachy or pompous, because that's not how i intended it.... i'm just passionate about the environment.} :)

lovely hearts at artstream gallery

just wanted to let you all know that i will have a few new pieces in the 'lovely hearts' show at artstream gallery in february. (you can see one of my pieces in the mosaic above... it is the second from the bottom on the left.)

here is what susan of artstream said about the show:

this exhibition will show artwork which celebrates all that is love (not just hearts), in all its aspects and invites artists everywhere to enter.

we at artstream feel there is not enough LOVE in the world. we also believe there is peace through love. we aim to add LOVE to the world through this visual project in February 2008.

at least 50% of the retail price of each artwork sold will support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. the other 50% goes directly back to the artists we love, unless the artwork is donated fully.

i like the idea of adding some love to the world!

here is a new drawing i did. the constellation ursa major is associated with the myth of callisto, who was turned into a bear.

photos from interior inspiration

i am in love with these photos by interior inspiration on flickr. they all have this warm glowing feel to them, and it just makes me feel so cozy.

here is what sas has to say about her home in the netherlands (where these photos are taken): 'the weather here is not very appealing to me (although i was born here) so i painted my house in colours that remind me of the sun. and now even when it's raining I'm warm in my little pumpkin house :)'

it reminds me of the sun, too!

ok, so i know it's not christmas time anymore, but i cannot get over this illustration this morning. i am in love with the silhouettes. that staircase! swoon. (it is by niroot puttapipat, who i found while looking at the artworks illustration agency)

i also love the illustration below, by james majowski, found at the same agency.

signs from afar

i am quite amused by these signs i found in the stick people in peril flickr pool this morning via fffound. (maybe i'm amused because it's 6:30 in the morning and i've already been up for an hour...?)
