What I Wore Today

{gemma correll}

You may have seen this project that Gemma Correll started already, and I've been meaning to blog about it for forever now, so if by chance you haven't yet seen the What I Wore Today project, here it is!

{emilie boudet}

Basically, the idea is to draw what you wore today, and then post it in the flickr group. Gemma also chooses her favorites to post on the blog of the same name. (She posted my drawing a couple days ago!)

{marina collings}

Here is my drawing from October 16th:

I really want to do another one soon!

{hamptone}

Definitely check out the group, because it's really so wonderful, and new drawings are being uploaded all the time. I really hope a publisher picks this up, because I think it would be SUPER book. Don't you? Now get to work on a drawing so you can add it to the ever-growing group!

we say meow: new blog!

i wanted to make sure you all know about this brand new blog called 'we say meow' that artists/illustrators mary kilvert and anke weckmann have put together. the concept behind it is so wonderful-- they're featuring illustrations of cats and also a photo of the artist's cat(s)! i was honored when they asked me to participate, and excited that i'd get to show off my sweet little kitty, anika.

you can see my cat pattern below, and the top illustration is by leila shetty, the one directly above is by lisa evans.

do check out the blog-- it's marvelous so far! i'm hoping anke and mary will post their own images soon, too, because they're both fantastically talented and inspiring.

society 6

have you all heard about society 6 yet? i just discovered it yesterday, and boy am i excited! society 6 is a vibrant social networking platform for artists to promote their work and connect with unique opportunities. it's a verycool concept-- you can create studios within your page to showcase different bodies/styles of work, follow other artists, promote other artists' work on your page, and connect with fellow creatives all over the world. plus, they have a crazy awesome artist grant program, where organizations/companies/individuals can offer grants to artists, and the society6 community nominates who they think should receive the grant. and the grants are really amazing! (you can check out the full list here.) i found out about society6 through threadless, who are offering a grant to design an exclusive t-shirt for their select series and $1,000!

anyway, i thought you all might be interested since many of you are artists, and we're all always looking for new ways to promote our work and connect with other like-minded folks. (i started a page and am in the process of getting some work uploaded and starting to follow people and their studios! so much fun.)

*you can also read more about society6 over at cool hunting-- they wrote a great post about it!*

my free desktop wallpaper at kindred

my dears, i've been excitedly waiting to tell you about this, and now today i can, because holly and ez (of decor8 and creature comforts, respectively) unveiled the kindred summer edition yesterday-- and i'm thrilled to tell you that they asked me to create one of the 10 free desktop wallpapers!

if you don't know, kindred is a collaborative site between ez and holly, and they invite a select group of artists each season to create free desktop wallpapers, which are free for the world to enjoy!

here is the wallpaper i created:

isn't it summery and fun? it just makes me think of fruit! (and if you want to know a secret, that girl on the right is drawn from a photograph of myself...)

you can click here to download mine and the 9 other gorgeous wallpapers by verrrrry talented ladies. believe me, you're going to have a hard time choosing which one to use first- they're al beautiful!

*big thanks to holly & ez for inviting me to participate-- i'm honored and thrilled to be there!*

blog love: cachemire et soie

i just found a new blog that i'm totally in love with called cashemire et soie (cashmere and silk, in english), and these 2 photos were part of what sucked me in.

the other part that sucked me in is that it's a french blog, and i truly think french is the most beautiful language on earth. j'aime beacoup! i minored in french in college (yes, i know, very useful here in the usa!), so it's fun to read the blog and see how much i actually remember.

these photos also make me wish i had an iphone, because apparently there is a function you can get called camerabag, where you can change the look of your photos with different filters to make them look antiqued, from the 1970s, black and white, etc. the poladroid function was used for these photos. love it!

i wanted to let you all know that i'm exhibiting at paper n stitch again this month, and you really must go check out the whole site-- the number of fantastic artists that are involved is blowing my mind!!! brittni wood does a really super job curating the site, in my opinion. :)

please, go to it! and if you heart my shop, there's a chance i could win a free month and some other cool stuff. (and if you give hearts to other people, too, incidentally, they're in the running as well. you're certainly not obligated to love me the most!)

YCN + riita ikonen

this is an image by london-based artist riita ikonen. i think it is just marvelous. i found it on YCN, a website with which i am now going to become obsessed.

here's a bit about YCN in their own words:

established in 2001, YCN exists to inspire and showcase emerging creative talent in design and visual communication.

through annual creative awards, publishing ventures, live events, relationships with creative education - and frequent collaborations, YCN has established a large and ever growing international audience.

this website serves as a platform from which interested parties can discover new work, share content, self-promote, find and list events, buy creative products and discover new opportunities.

and they have a really amazing looking agency called agency YCN which employs artists, designers, illustrators, etc in varied projects internationally. i'm so inspired!

and here is another image, from riita's website:

you guys absolutely have to go over to still dottie and check out ann's post today-- she asked a number of bloggers (including me! thanks ann!) to talk about their favorite print magazines and the differences for them between print and web, and you can read it all right here. it is a post full of seriously awesome information from some seriously inspiring folks, and now i have a list of magazines i can't wait to get my hands on!

and ann did a great job compiling it all-- i can't imagine how long it took to sort everything out! great job, ann!

decor8 giveaway loot!

oh my goodness. i received my package from the decor8 giveaway (i was one of 10 lucky winners!), and good lord, i can't even begin to describe how incredible the contents of this *heavy* box are.

i practically ran into the living room and dumped everything out on the floor (much to ryan's chagrin!) to examine the goodies. there is everything from gorgeous fabric to super fun cards and paper goods to vintage paper to postcards to ribbon to buttons and more! it is truly spectacular, and i feel so LUCKY to be the new owner of all this wonderful and inspiring stuff from around the world!

and, i can't imagine what a crazy task it must've been on holly's part to organize everything into 10 cohesive packages-- i mean, it was orgazined by color and type, all lovingly pinned together and wrapped with ribbon-- it was astounding.

thank you to holly for inspiring me and so many other people-- i am so very honored to have received this wonderful box of inspiration! and thank you to all those that donated to my box-- i don't know who you are, but i *so* appreciate it. truly.

cool blog... motywacja

i love this image. the lines are beautiful, and it reminds me of birds. does it remind you of birds, too?

i saw this on a new-to-me blog this morning called motywacja. i wish i could read it; it's in polish, which is entirely foreign to me, but i enjoyed looking through the images. i've gathered that it's the blog of artist edyta ubych, but that's about it!

do any of you speak polish? please?

we {heart prints} and keniche hoshine

oh lord, it's happened again. i've fallen for another piece of artwork and another amazing site on which i found said piece of artwork.

i read about we {heart} prints on creature comforts this morning, and upon checking it out found that it is a wealth of images worth oohing and ahhing over.

so, the piece of artwork above is by keniche hoshine, and i adore it. i think it's just beautiful, and this is not typically the type of work i swoon over. something about that gauzy black feeling on the left side of the piece.....

here are a couple others by keniche that i like:

now if you'll excuse me, i have to get back to drooling over these prints. :)

(i apologize, too, because i saw this photo from fine little day on another blog and i can't remember which! if you, mystery blogger, are reading this, i hope you'll forgive me!)
