i'm off bright and early tomorrow morning to drive up to chicago for SOFA! i can't believe it's that time already. the tables look great, and i am so so excited.

so, needless to say, i will be taking a bit of a blogging break from tomorrow until monday, when i will be back with full posts about chicago, the SOFA expo, and an update on what happened with the tables!

projects projects projects

there's a lot going on in my studio these days. many different projects!

here are some photos of my studio as it looked this evening, after a session of printing on some fabric that will become cute little bags to put stuff in at ICE!

i discovered that gocco screens can be used without the gocco machine, and with regular ol' screen printing ink, too! i used speedball fabric priinting ink with *marvelous* results. yay!

ICE- Atlanta, here I come!

it' s official- i will be participating in the ICE- Atlanta show this november 17th!
(ICE stands for Indie Craft Experience...)

i'm so excited. this will be the first indie craft fair that ive' ever done! i've done plenty of fine art festivals, but not a crafty one, and i cannot wait. i have lots of things in the works for this show, to be revealed on this blog and on my flickr page in the coming weeks...

if you are in the area, come on down! it's sure to be a killer show, and you can stock up on handmade holiday gifts! (isn't that better than going to the mall? i'd say!)

10/22 collage

i thought it would be fun to have a weekly these for my art-making, to try to give it some structure. the way things are going lately, i'm having trouble focusing on one thing.

here are all the things that are constantly going through my brain that i want to do, all at the same time, and to be an expert at them all immediately :

little paintings, big paintings, gocco, sewing, painting murals, making wallpaper, collages, screen printing, making tables, carving stamps, making stencils, creating greeting cards, learning web design, more marketing, design cool packaging for products, revamp this blog, bookmaking, doll-making....... on and on and on....... i am not kidding. it's a wonder i ever get anything done at all.

so, anyway, this week's theme (begun yesterday): COLLAGE.

this is the first one. it is called "sugar plum." it may go into the etsy shop; i'm not sure yet. keep your eyes peeled!

i can't get enough of this photo. i found a new blog this morning (ali loves curtis), and she posted this photo from kayo gallery in salt lake city, utah. i checked out the gallery's website, and they have so many great artists!

wallpaper + peacocks!

that peacock photograph is definitely my favorite thing i've seen so far today. i love it. papier peint des annees 70 is a french wallpaper company that operates out of germany (from what i could gather in my rusty college french...), and their website is chock full of shots of their papers. definitely worth a look!

i have been in the market for a new quilt or duvet since ryan and i got our new king sized bed in august. i haven't found anything i'm crazy about yet, but i do like these denise schmidt quilts. i'll
keep searching and find the perfect thing, i'm sure.

with SOFA just 2 weeks away (I can't believe it), the tables are finally almost ready to go.
i am really pleased with them, but i want to hear what you think!

which one of these four is your favorite? why? (i'm clearly trying to get some feedback and opinions besides my own and ryan's here!)

also, just a quick little pat on the back to myself: these photos were taken in my living room this morning! these are the first tables i've photographed myself with the *professional-looking* white background, and i think they look mighty fine! (i'm sure my brand new digital camera helped.... my old one was literally falling apart after 5 years of loving and constant use, so i bit the bullet and bought a new one, which i adore!!)

so, please do give your comments on the tables-- they are on their way to chicago in 2 weeks, to hopefully be scooped up by loving owners! (and also to serve as a way to get my work into new venues! exciting!)

sequin art

i am thrilled by this piece by kristin moreland called "high above it's all clear..."
those sequins blow my mind. kristin hand-sews all her sequins and beads, and her technique was adapted from the Haitian textile art form of drapo.

i have an undying love for sequins, and this is at the top of my list as far as the little shiny pieces of delight go....

just a little something silly

here is a silly card i made for my sister's birthday! i'm in a silly mood and wanted to post something silly. :)

(i've had cupcakes on the brain, because apparently there is a killer new cupcake shop that just opened in atlanta. i don't tend to go for the sweet stuff, but i'm intrigued by the sound of this shop.... i'll keep you posted!)

cool artist... kevin paine

these photographs with hand-drawn details by kevin paine are just simply fantastic. that balloon seems to sum up the reasons why i love art. truly. i can't get enough of that balloon. that is a piece of artwork i would love to own. i think i have a thing for hot air balloons, which may be part of the reason i love this piece so, but i'm crazy about the rest of it, too...... who knows.
(did you ever see the ceramic hot air balloons that i made??)

anyhow, enough about my wierd balloon obsession. you can see more of kevin's work on his website here, and at littlebird gallery in los angeles here.

cool artist... julie maren

i have liked julie maren's work since i first saw it at the bmoca art auction several years back. she lives and works in boulder (my hometown!), and i love checking out her work every chance i get. strangely, i had never looked at her website until this morning, and i'm so glad i did! it is full of her work, and definitely worth a browse.

ok, so when i said i'd post new paintings in the next couple of days, i guess i meant today!
these are 2 new smaller pieces i've done in the last few days, and i'm really having fun with them. there are 2 more in the works that will be posted most likely tomorrow.

let me know what you think! if i get a good response, they just might end up in my etsy shop, as originals and prints both!

ok, so i'm not sure whether to be excited that there's a product out there sort-of like mine, or a little nervous. i guess it probably happens all the time, but it's a little scary to see something so similar, especially when i'm about to take my tables to a big show in chicago in just a few weeks! yikes!

anyway, these tables are by desktop design in austria (found via designspotter). what do you think? do you like them? would you prefer a more one-of-a-kind version, like, say, mine? :)
