i think i'm moving! to... georgia???

so friends, i have strange news. all this time i've been *hoping* to be on my way to the lovely city of philadelphia, and things now seem to be changing.

ryan has been accepted to the georgia campus of the philadelphia college of osteopathic medicine, which is a hugely unexpected turn of events. so, we are off on a plane bright and early on monday to check out the school and the area (i've never been to georgia!!)- it is in a town called suwanee, which is about 25 miles north of atlanta.

help! does anyone know anything about atlanta and the surrounding area?? what about the art scene? any great shops/restaurants/parks/museums/areas........ i need all the suggestions i can get..... LEAVE ME COMMENTS!!

two sarahs: cool stuff

tres magnifique!

lighting from france

i really like these lamps by tair mercier (a french husband-wife company)....... for only $40, it's a steal! see more here at elsewares. (such a great site full of fun stuff!!)

oladesign

i like these ceramic dishes by oladesign. i am toying with the idea of beginning to make ceramic dishes myself, so i like to see what people are doing. see more (and buy, if you are so inclined) right here in her etsy shop.

birthday treat

just wanted to post a photo of this pretty cake i made for my sister's 25th birthday yesterday.
it is a carrot zucchini cake with ricotta-honey-maple frosting- yum!
(the flower burst thingies around the edge are from a clematis plant in our garden...)

piggy banks of a grown-up variety

i think this is a pretty darn clever idea. how it works: decide what you want to save money for, write it on the outside of your bomb-shaped money bank. save save save. save some more. when you're ready, break it open! throw it on the ground! then go buy your special item. sounds fun, eh?

this image makes my world complete.

i cannot get over this photograph. i think my world just shifted, knowing that things like this exist somewhere out there. i was looking for images of hanging lanterns and came across this image of floating chinese lanterns at the botanical gardens in montreal, canada. i would give just about anything to see this in person. the website says that this is the 15th year that the chinese garden in the botanical gardens will be aglow during september and october, for people to come visit and learn about chinese legends.

why don't i live in montreal?

the swan image came from an unbelievable site called trek earth (i'd never heard of it before, but am clearly hooked already.) these images below are from the site. for those of you who love to travel (as i do), this is a must see. there are some truly spectacular images from all over the world. you will want to visit each and every one of them. have fun browsing!

oh martha, you did it again

this image just makes me want to have a party! i would love to fill my house and backyard with these great big martha stewart pom pom flowers made of tissue paper and run around dancing to loud summery music in the dress from my last post and really cute sandals. and drinking margaritas. and picking green beans from the garden. and laughing a lot.

sounds like i better get planning! perhaps i'll throw myself a birthday shindig......

wiksten-made

i would love love love to own this dress.... it's made by jenny gordy of wiksten-made, and i am in love with it. check out her blog here, which is full of her creations.

party on the ceiling

i can't decide about this chandelier by stuart haygarth. apparently it is made of 1000 exploded party poppers found after the millenium celebrations in london. bizarre, eh? i love what people are up to! the chandelier was recreated, too, in an edition of 20, with new party poppers, after the original.

what do you think? like it? yes? no? i really like the idea, but i'm not so sure about the aesthetics. there's also a version in black...

moonwalking

i think this photo is just great. oh, how i'd love to walk down the sidewalk and see funny little comments like this!

maruca design

now i'm not a huge purse person (i go more in the direction of necklaces!), but i really like these purses, and i am totally out of the loop on them! maruca design is a company right here in boulder that is extremely popular (with the ladies),and i'd never even heard of it until recently, when someone asked me: "are you going to the maruca sale?" when i said i didn't even know what the maruca sale was, she about fell on the floor.

well, i've put myself on their mailing list, so i'll be sure to know when the next sale is! check out their full inventory (which changes every season i might add) right here. enjoy!

dion van zelst

while in amsterdam a couple of years ago, i had the pleasure of meeting artist dion van zelst, the son of a friend of a friend. a chance meeting! i also visited his studio, which was unbelievable, and i'm a big fan of his work. he visited boulder to do a residency of sorts in the building where my studio is, too, so some of his work is still around here.

his website is mainly in dutch, but still worth a look. i love the lines he uses in his work!

i'd like to introduce you to: casey mcglynn

i met casey mcglynn when he was visiting boulder (from canada) to install a show at the boulder museum of contemporary art (where i work and install artwork. that's why i met him.) let me tell you, this guy is prolific. he basically created the entire show, with the exception of a few paintings he had brought with him, in the 2 weeks leading up to the show. drawing after drawing after drawing, tarps all over the museum floor, cans of acrylic house paint, walls painted black and then drawn on with paint markers... you name it, he did it. it was awesome, and by far one of my favorite installations.

he even stayed with ryan and me for a night and slept on the couch, and in the morning he had 2 drawings done just for us! they are now proudly displayed on the fridge. :)
(pics to come tomorrow... too lazy to move from the couch and photograph them right now...)

his website is just so perfectly casey, you MUST check it out. it is great. enjoy, my friends out in the blogosphere!

this is casey...

more new mini pieces!

[not the greatest photo...]

a wall of my new little monotype animals! how fun is that? i will be selling these at the downtown boulder art fair this weekend, but they are also on my website! soon to be in my etsy shop, too...

i'm really enjoying seahorses lately...

gregory alan isakov

i was introduced to gregory alan isakov's music a couple of summer's ago by my friend jeff, and i have been enamored with him ever since. his music is perfect. his voice, his guitar..... i'm telling you, i could listen to it all day. i've seen him play around town several times, too, and it's always just so lovely and soothing and wonderful. and the coolest news: he's opening for ani difranco in a few days! how cool is that? i have a soft spot in my heart for ani difranco, as she was the inspiration for my songwriting and guitar-playing days (more about that long-ago life later...)

anyway, check out his website (which is super creative, i must say!), and his newest cd, "that sea, the gambler." so so good.

and isn't he adorable??
