art department, based in massachusetts, makes these adorable ceramics! i happened upon them on the orange lola site, and i am in love with that hot air balloon ornament...

new favorite artist... hillary williams

i saw hilary's work at the artist xchange gallery in san francisco, and i'm kicking myself for not buying one of her prints. i loved her work immediately. her colors and layers were fascinating, and if you have a chance to see her work in person, take it!! here is her website.

some favorites from san francisco

well, i had a whirlwind of a weekend in san francisco and berkeley, and boy do i love it out there! aside from driving around like somewhat of an idiot getting lost every five minutes (those freeway signs are confusing!), the weekend was a joy, and i got to visit a lot of the places who's websites i've been oogling over for months now, which was really great.

beautifully broken vases

jason miller does some really interesting things with his work-- these vases have been cracked and restored without any attempt to recreate the pristine original. The damage is highlighted, and it is a fun twist on what we normally think of as beautiful. he has also made things like the duct tape chair and dusty table, which also play on what beauty and function actually are.

carson fox

another bmoca fave of mine, carson fox. oddly, her work is also at claire oliver (along with previous post artist phyllis bramson), so i was pleasantly surprised while looking at the website.

carson's work is really fun to look at-- sparkly, girly, gorgeous, but mysterious and slightly unsettling, too. (if you look closely, the top image says "liar"...) see her work here on her webstite and here at claire oliver gallery in nyc.

phyllis bramson

one of my favorite parts of installing exhibitions at the boulder museum of contemporary art is discovering artists i've never seen before that i end up loving. such was the case with phyllis bramson. her paintings are huge (think 6x6') and colorful and other-worldly and strange, and i just adore them. she sometimes incorporates elements of mixed media and found objects in her work, and the images are always surprising and thought-provoking. check out her website here and her work at claire oliver gallery in ny here.

i am loving... lite brite!

my friend kristen and i got this at a flea market for $7.50, and i can't believe someone got rid of it. it's still so much fun, and we're not even 8 years old anymore! now all i need is a rainbow brite doll and some blue mascara and i'll be living my childhood again.
the set came complete with mr.t patterns and everything. straight back to the 80s. what could be better than that?
