lauren rossi

i had to share the love in this. i saw these reupholstered chairs by philadelphia textile designer lauren rossi on the oh joy! blog and couldn't resist posting about them here. just gorgeous! screen-printing, here i come!

chris tanner

i saw an exhibit of chris tanner's work a few years ago, and it was one of those that left an important impression on me that i'll never forget. i absolutely ADORE his work. It's brimming with glitter, faux jewels, sequins, and other shiny, sparkly, kitschy things, but somehow it is not at all cheap and gaudy, but just glamorous and beautiful. swoon.

he is having a show at the pavel zoubok gallery in new york city called how high the moon, which runs from march 14- april 15. if you are in the area, go check it out!!! you'll be so happy you did.

a little weekend girlie fun

my friend kristen had a sleepover at her house on friday night, because her boyfriend was out of town. 8 girls, pizza, wine, and..... teepeeing. kristen's friend casey lives in this camper trailer in her backyard (it's super cute and decked out inside!), and he was joking about spying on us, so we decided to get him back by teepeeing his trailer. hehehe! that's what you get, casey!

the fabric workshop and museum

if i moved to philadelphia, this would be the first place i'd go. the fabric workshop and museum is a non-profit arts organization that supports the creation of new works in new media, and hosts an amazing artist-in-residence program in which to realize this mission in collaboration with emerging, national, and international artists. how cool! they also have an apprentice program in which young artists learn the entire process of silk-screening repeat patterns on fabric. sounds like a dream come true! i'll let you know if i apply. :)

wall paint-by-numbers

i love these wall paint-by-numbers by jenny wilkinson. what a fun way to liven up a room and make some art at the same time! {available at the moma store}

what would you fight for?

i think this is so great. unfortunately they sold out today, so i can't buy one. they're a steal, too- only a dollar! what a way to stand for what you care for. check out the etsy shop here.

{book i want}

i can't wait for this book to come out so i can look at all the gorgeous patterns designed by florence broadhurst! she was an extremely talented wallpaper designer who was mysteriously murdered at the age of 78. {the book is coming out march 29th at chronicle books.} this is a must buy for sure.

springing forward

i have gardening on the brain! with the time change came 70 degree weather here in boulder, and i wore sandals yesterday for the first time this year! and with warm weather comes thoughts of home-grown vegetables, so I pulled up some weeds and dead plants from the garden plot yesterday to get ready to plant once april hits.
these nifty little gardening goodies are from simplemente blanco in boston (via blueprint blog). what a great way to label all the little green bits poking up into the sun!

anthropologie stole my heart

anthropologie has me pining away once again for things i can't afford, like extravagantly patterned couches for $5000. sigh. one day when i am rich. until then, i'll be happy with the eye candy (check out the website!!)

sharing the creative process

my good friend carol astutely pointed out in a comment on a post yesterday that i am not sharing any of my own artwork or creative process on my blog, and it got me thinking. the main reason is that i have been working 50+ hours a week to help get a brand new organic restaurant open (called organic orbit)- i have created all the art in the space and am the in-house designer or sorts. this is all well and god, but my own work has been hugely neglected lately. the restaurant is opening this saturday (!!) after a loooong haul, so i'll be free after that! at least free from the 50+ hour a week grind. yay!

so, beginning on april 1st, i am going to commit to CREATING THING A DAY and posting about it for the month of april. i will divulge more details as they come up. for now: here are some images of things i've created in the last year or so. enjoy! feel free to check out my website here.

faux sunlight

i couldn't resist a post about these reveal lights by adam frank: they create an impression of sunlight streaming through a window, cast onto a wall, and a light breeze appears to move through the trees. pretty cool, eh? could be perfect for those winter days when you're just not seeing enough sunlight.

dreaming of ireland

if i were going back to school, i would want to go to the burren college of art in ballyvaughan, ireland. i have been to the burren before, and it is awe-inspiring. when i was in ireland, i had no problem believing that leprechauns and fairies and other magical creatures galavant around the forests and hills- and i'm not usually one to go for the fantastical stuff! but i was definitely on the lookout...

fancy tiger

fancy tiger is a hip diy/crafting store in denver, on south broadway, which seems to be the up and coming area for funkiness. lots fo cool-looking shops-- i need to make a trip downt here to check it out. fancy tiger holds classes on all sorts of things (knitting, sewing, felting, zine making...), and they have open crafting nights where you go with your project and have a ball with other crafters! sounds like fun, eh?
