cool artist... whitney bedford

i have loved whitney bedford's work for a long time, and she popped into my mind just now, so here are some images for you to look at! her paintings are beautiful- calm and destructive at the same time somehow. i just love them. (ps- she is only 4 years older than me, and she has shown at the saatchi gallery in london. whoa!)

the secret language of sleep

after a couple of interrupted nights of sleep (ryan sure likes to wiggle!), this book could be of use to me. the book interprets the way that you and your partner sleep, and gives insight into what it means about you! fun, huh?

learn more about the book here and order it here.

georgia weekend: part 3, the aquarium

i am fascinated by jellyfish. have i ever mentioned this? i think they are just incredible, and i spent about 15 minutes staring at them at the georgia aqaurium this weekend.

there were many many other delights of the sea to view:

sea turtles...

tons of fish, of course...

sea horses (another fave)...

beluga whales (4 of them!)

and a 63 foot long viewing window into a tank that had an unbelievable array of fish in it, including 3 whale sharks (the biggest fish known to man), a hammerhead shark, and some sawfish in it. i love this shot with the silhouetted people.

it was awesome.

georgia weekend: part 2

i just wanted to share some more of the photos i took this weekend. it was so great to just wander around taking photos for 3 days!

these shots are from the centennial olympic park/ cnn/ georgia aquarium area (in downtown atlanta.) i know they are slightly blurry, but i am in *love* with these photos. especially the first one with the water droplets on the camera lens from the fountains...

{this is a photo of a pool with a fountain pushing the water around, lit up from beneath. beautiful, eh?}

howard finster's paradise gardens

{the folk art chapel}

on saturday morning, i dragged ryan and his parents up to summerville, georgia to go to howard finster's paradise gardens, and it was going to be the highlight of my weekend. it was closed when we got there!!! i could not believe it. i was so disappointed. it turns out it's only open by appointment now fow some reason. i got as may photos through the fence as i could, so i present to you the not-as-interesting-as-i'd-hoped images of the paradise gardens. enjoy!

autumn is coming...

it's becoming fall here in georgia, and i am *loving* it. these are some photos i took at candler murphy park in atlanta the other day-- the weather is perfect here lately!!! fall is my absolute favorite time; it's like a new beginning for me. i love the cool touch in the air, having to bring a sweater with you, sitting on the couch knitting and drinking tea.....

cool artist... betsy walton

i'm really liking these gouache/colored pencil pieces by betsy walton this morning. see more on her website right here.

cool blog of the day

check out this lovely blog: sakura snow. gorgeous images! love those pods...

outsider art

i am loving this crayon drawing by nellie mae rowe at the barbara archer gallery here in atlanta.
i guess i'm on an outsider/self-taught art kick, since i'm so excited about going to visit howard finster's lair this weekend.

this drawing, done in the late 1970's (when nellie was in her late 70s!), costs $8000.00!! amazing.
