i'm all about illustration lately. all about it. i am pretty much constantly impressed and inspired by all the talented illustrators out there, and this morning is no different.
aren't these illustrations by eugenia tsimikls just lovely? they're really calling my name. if she had an etsy shop, i would probably go buy something right now. but alas, no shop. but you can see eugenia's website, which is lovely, just like her illustrations.

carol maskus... friend and artist

my friend carol emailed me a few days ago to tell me about the store she just opened on cafepress to sell her illustrations on things like tshirts and bags. it's called upsidedown giraffe studio, and when i checked out the shop i was all smiles! i've seen some of her illustrations before in card form, but i love them on these other surfaces. i mean, that octopus bag? come ON, is that not awesome?

but my personal favorite is this one:

dawanda

this morning my curiosity about dawanda has gotten the better of me. i recently had someone ask me if i sold my work on dawanda (which i do not), and it led me to want to check it out. from what i gather, it's sort-of the european version of etsy- am i right?

so, dear readers, my question to you is: what's your experience with dawanda? have you purchased anything from the site? do you sell your wares there?

there is definitely a wide range of products available- endless browsing potential (maybe not quite as endless as the thousands of products and sellers on etsy (!), but extensive nonetheless.)

happy monday morning and daylight savings time! i don't know about you but i definitely woke up an hour later than i wanted to this morning. this whole time change thing really messes with my body and sense of timing!

beautiful bathrooms

i truly cannot wait for the day that i own a house and can do whatever i want to it. i am sure that one bathroom will be full of teeny tiles, much like the one pictured above.
and i love the drama of this black-walled bathroom-- it feels somehow calming and invigorating at the same time.

and this one below is not quite my style, but i think it's fun anyway. i love how clean tile feels!

today i am loving...

WHALES!

i'm working on a painting with a whale in it right now, so it got me wondering what other whale art was out there in internet-land. i'm in love with the piece above by orange willow. love it. may have to buy it. then, when i popped over to etsy, what should i see on the front page? this! another whale, this one by eggman studios:

and this one by lizette greco made me laugh and laugh.... i would love to see this sitting out on a pier somewhere!

the sounds of color

so, i just saw this on platinum blonde life and had to share-- it looks like the gap is getting even more creative with their advertising. they got 5 different artists to write a song that embodies a color, and the results are so fun!

is this photo of the museo de arte comtemporaneo de castilla y leon (musac) not a dream come true?? it is beautiful!! those colors..... oh, swoon. the red-maroon-orange-yellow-green part of the building is one of my absolute favorite color schemes, and i can't stop staring at it!

it was designed by madrid-based architects mansilla & tunon, it won the 2007 mies van der rohe award, and you can read all about it on the 2modern blog. and you can feel free to stare all you want-- i'm right there with ya!

inke heiland

i'm loving these wallpaper cutouts of animals by inke heiland this morning. they are made out of vintage wallpaper; if i had kids these would definitely go up on their walls! and that pattern below.... how i would love to have pillows made out of it for my couch. it would be perfect.

donna wilson, textile artist

as i was looking through my new issue of i.d. magazine today, i came across these photos of textile artist donna wilson's studio and about fell on the floor. if that's where i got to go to work everyday, i would be one happy artist!

she has a cute website, too, and her work is all over the world!

sigh. i think in my next life i'll have to be a textile artist. or maybe in this life at some point. just not right now. i don't need to add another thing to do to my already infinite list!

new stuff from wolfie and the sneak!

my friend renee, of wolfie and the sneak, is pretty much the most creative person i know. i am completely smitten with her work, and she never fails to amaze me with her new products and dedication to her craft. that said, check out what's new in her etsy shop! these fun notecards are calling my name-- wouldn't you want to receive one of these in the mail? my sister and i have a penpal thing going on, and i know she would be pleasantly surprised to get a letter written on one of these beauties. check out what else is in wolfie and the sneak's shop, as well as their website! you will be so happy you did. :) oh, and her blog, too, of course.

lisa dahl... the macdowell project

i don't know if you guys saw this on dear ada a few days ago, but i've had it saved in my bloglines and i keep going back to ooh and ahh over it. is this not completely stunning and creative and wonderful and fun??

in this series, called the 'macdowell colony project,' lisa dahl takes photographs and paints over the architectural parts with acrylic paint, and i think the results are just so terrific.

about her work [in her own words]:
"the suburban home – the home of my childhood – is a familiar cultural icon in our sprawling landscape, tacitly addressing the “american dream” and its discontents. i use images from real estate magazines, as well as my own photographs, and transform the houses through the application of multiple layers of brightly colored paint and other materials. this democratization of the rooflines and architectural details, paired with the remaining landscaping, allows the images to read still as recognizable forms, but the new structures have no means of entry – no sense of the comfort we equate with the homes of our dreams."
