...settling in

the internet is up and running, and i'm feeling ready to go in my new georgia home! it is hard to believe i've already been here a week. (how did we all survive without the internet?? i must say, though, it was sort-of a nice relief to be without it for a week.... it's really easy to dissociate from ourselves and our intuition with all this crazy technology. in my experience anyway.)

here are some photos of our new house (in it's meager beginnings!) don't look at the safari couch... it is the one piece of furniture in our house that i absolutey cannot stand. but with the move, i can't afford a new couch just yet, so...... it stays for the time being. i am toying with the idea of learning how to make a slip cover-- any suggestions for where to learn out there in web-land??

i will be sure to post more photos as we spruce up the place a bit.

{the living room---- complete with brand-new fish in the aquarium!! so sad, though: we woke up this morning to an almost-dead cardinal tetra... what is it about new fish being so vulnerable??}

{a view into my *new* studio!}

{the dining room and tiny window into the kitchen...}

{and my all-time fave georgia picture so far......sorry if this offends anyone. it is just oh-so-different from how i grew up in boulder, colorado...}

a few pics from some things we've done since our arrival in hot sticky georgia:

{lake lanier, just 15 minutes from us!}

{ryan and i at the lake...}

{an old converted mansion on milledge street in athens, georgia-- they're all fraternity and sorority houses now!}

{one of the streets in downtown athens... this town reminded me a lot of boulder, and it was just lovely. i'll be back for sure! it's just 40 miles from us}

{a street in midtown atlanta. one thing we've discovered *quickly* here so far is to not go anywhere during rush hour. it is no fun! we've ventured the 20 or so miles into the city to make a couple of trips to IKEA, and i am excited to learn more about bustling atlanta.}

the thing i'm least excited about in georgia: THE BUGS. i've seen cockroches, spiders, crickets, and giant ants galore since i've been here, and big noisy bugs that i've never seen before that live in the trees. and, to top it all off, as i was falling asleep one night, i felt and heard a bug climbing into my ear. i am not joking. it is like the amazon down here. (ok, i'm exaggerating, but it's different from boulder for sure!!)

...catia chien

today i am really enjoying the work of catia chien. her illustrations are overflowing with imagination, and i think they are perfectly suited for children's books (which she is working on!) She is also producing work for animation/films, galleries, and comic book anthologies. whew! busy girl. check out her site right here (she has an online shop, too.)

today i am... wanting to start an etsy shop

this is something i've wanted to do for a while now. i have all these ideas of things i want to make and sell in the shop, but i haven't made any of them yet. i have a list of things to do before i can start setting up the shop: wash out screens for silkscreening, buy fabric printing ink, make sure printer prints perfect replicas of my paintings... instead of just starting it and going from there.

so, my promise to myself: i will start my etsy shop by the end of may. that gives me a month and 3 days to get it all together. starting TODAY.

today i am... loving springtime!

well, i've unintentionally backed out on my agreement with myself to make a thing a day. it's been 4 days now, and my poor little sketchbook has not even been cracked open. don't get me wrong- i've mad plenty of stuff the last 4 days, but not with my thing-a-day goal in mind, and not based on my weekly themes. sigh. should i keep going? should i try it again in may?

try it again in may. and not feel guilty about not making it for the whole month. it's ok!!

it's getting to be spring time here in boulder (finally!), and ryan and i spent some time digging in our garden yesterday, uncovering worms, planting seeds... it was great fun. the shot above is from a flickr site-- an interesting shot of spring coming in the lake como area of italy. what's up with those trees? so wierd.

...wild over fonts

just wanted to share this great font site: dafont. The best part you ask? They're free to download! Free to use! Isn't that great? There are hundreds f them, too, so it's endless amounts of fun to look at. enjoy!

today i am... a snow bunny

(looking south on my street...4th street)

(a view up the hill from the corner outside my house)

(the next street down the hill from me; feels like "where the sidewalk ends" to me...)

i love my neighborhood when it snows. i went out for a walk this morning and was blown away by the beauty. the sky was this perfect deep blue, and all around me the white snow was so pristine and quiet... i love walking in the snow.

today i am... feeling like a kid

ryan and i just made a snowman! on the back of our neighbor's (and landlord's) trailor! he was pleasantly surprised. :)

i was inspired by my little sister's snowman that she made while bored and home alone today...

if only all 16 year olds made snowmen to cure their boredom... our world would be a much lovelier place.

happy snow day and winter solstice! i hope you're all drinking tea and making soup and watching movies. or drinking lemonade and eating sorbet if you're somewhere warm!

... dreaming of a white christmas in leg warmers

the snow is officially coming down here in boulder this morning, and i'm having a craving to pull out the bin of yarn and start knitting some leg warmers. perhaps pink...? since i seem to be obsessed with the color these days. i was a non-pink kind of girl up until about 2 years ago, when all of a sudden everything started having to be pink. it's a mystery...

today i am... addicted to america's next top model

it's true, i broke down and watched the show tonight (3 episodes in a row on VH1!,) and i got sucked in. i thought i wouldn't, but i did. what is it about these reality shows that is so captivating? i've never been one to fall for it, but i couldn't resist this one. it was just like with project runway... man, i love that show, too. i'm in trouble...

i want to make a snow angel!

it is snowing here again, and i don't want to leave the house. my laptop is positioned right in front of the window where i can watch it coming down, inch by inch by slow inch, and it seems so much nicer than actually being out in it! but there are projects to accomplish, wood to buy, fabric stores to visit, and a new domino magazine to buy, so off i go, into the annual pre-halloween boulder blizzard...
