daily illustration love: kate seaward

i love discovering new artists that inspire me. LOVE IT. which is why i'm so excited about kate seaward's drawings right now. i noticed these sweet little notebooks on the pikapackage flickr page last night (by the way, check out pikaland and the pikapackage if you haven't yet-- it is fantastic! and i'll be contributing to the august round of goodies!), and then i went to kate's site, which is just lovely.

don't you think her drawings are just perfect?

marc johns

marc johns' work is making me very happy this morning. i love how whimsical and funny it is, and also how simple. it makes me want to break out the watercolors and ink and let my imagination run away with me!

his flickr photostream is full of little gems like these-- not to be missed, i tell you. go to it!

another cool illustrator... sandra juto

oh my. this is the most lovely thing i've come across today.
swedish artist sandra juto is definitely on my list of artists to keep an eye on.

(look at those color combinations! fantastic.)

[these images are from the website of lula, a multi-disciplinary art and design partnership based in gothenburg, sweden. check it out for sure!!]

cool illustrator... anders soderberg

i found anders soderberg's work somewhere recently (i'm sorry-- i can't remember the blog i saw it on! my apologies to whoever i am borrowing this from....! i'm a space cadet), and i think it's just fantastic. anders is a 27 year old drummer-turned-graphic-designer-and-illustrator living in gothenberg, sweden.

(do all the best artists and designers come from sweden?? sheesh.)

anyway, don't you think it's just lovely? i am particularly drawn to the top image.

you can see more of anders' work right here.

andrea cobb

i think if i had andrea cobb's life i would probably be very happy. her illustrations are marvelous, and i imagine she has great fun creating them.

i love the colors and how they feel delicate and intricate and full of movement.
now i want to go out and browse magazines to see if i can spy one of andrea's illustrations! i want to see them in print instead of just on my computer screen.

cool illustrator... rachel bloch

i am in love with these posters, especially the top one! rachel bloch (part of pan.gramme) created a series of 12 posters concerning nutrition and physical activity for the C.O. de Jolimont, Fribourg, which, from what i can gather in my rusty french, is a school in switzerland.

the top one gives you 3 ways to work off your midday burger (!!)-- 1 hour of swimming, 2 hours 20 minutes of walking, or 1 1/2 hours of biking. the second poster tells you that 2/3 of adults don't get enough phtsical exercise, and the bottom poster tells you you're supposed to get 30 minutes of activity per day.

do you not love these so, so much??

cool artist... sophie kern

sometimes i see an artist's work and it makes me want to throw away everything i've ever made and start over completely, just to make work like theirs.

sophie kern's work is making me feel this way this morning-- i love how her illustrations feel so free and spontaneous!! i don't know if that's the work of a practiced hand or that she is just an incredibly open portal to the creative world... maybe it's a combination of both.

in any case, i love her work, and you can see more on her website right here.

illustration: stefanie augustine

i'm enamored with stefanie augustine's illustrations this morning.
she is currently part of a group show at together gallery that i wish i could see so badly.

she has a pretty sweet list of past clients, and i can see why. her illustrations are fantastic.
her site is a must visit!

ilustrista on flickr

i can't get over these illustrations by luciano lozano (aka illustrista on flickr). the question is, how do i ever get anything done when there are artists like this out there to oogle over?

look at that blue!

are you drooling yet?

you can see tons of luciano's illustrations on his illustrista flickr photostream, and on his blog.
i promise, you'll get sucked in and all of a sudden it'll be 2:00 and you'll have skipped lunch. they're that good!

cool illustrator... gemma corell

mmmmm...... monday morning...... slightly bleary-eyed, but loving these illustrations by gemma corell.

i originally saw gemma's work on pikaland this morning, where the first ever pikapackage giveaway is happening! you have until tomorrow at 8pm (pacific time) to check out the goods, leave some comments about what you like, or sign up for the pikaland mailing list, and you'll be entered into the giveaway drawing! and believe you me, it is FULL of goodies. you know i've entered already!

and on other news: i got a new car!!! my dear old 4runner has pretty much bitten the dust, and it was time. so i am the proud new owner of a 2003 honda accord, and the proud new owner of my first ever car payment. eek!

also, i went to my very first atlanta braves game yesterday. now i am not really the baseball type, but i had fun! and it was so nice to be outside all afternoon. but truly, i think i was in it for the peanuts....... yum.

more cool illustration... leslie clerc

i can't get enough!!! here is another amazing illustrator for you to oogle over today-- again, from valerie oualid's agency in france. leslie clerc's work is aMAZing, don't you think?

cool illustrator... annabel briens

this is the work of annabel briens, and i can't get over it. it is beautiful. i think one of the reasons i love it so much is that it reminds me of two of my favorite artists from the past-- egon schiele and henri de toulouse-lautrec. yet she's got a style all her own as well, and that is something i admire greatly.

annabel is represented in the states by friend & johnson, by 2agenten in germany, and by valerie oualid in france. if you are in need of some fabulous figurative illustrations, you now know where to find her!
