knitted craziness... sandra backlund

while checking out simply olive this morning, i was immediately taken with these pieces by sandra backlund, and had to share them here. sandra lives and works in stockholm, sweden, and each piece is made by hand. amazing work, isn't it? can you imagine knitting all that by hand? incredible.

i cannot believe another holiday season is upon us. is thanksgiving really next week??? wow. time is seriously flying.

anyway, i was at neiman marcus yesterday (not of my own accord), and i saw these fabulous christmas trees. i'm toying with the idea of making a tree this year rather than buying a real one-- ryan and i are going to be gone visiting family for a couple of weeks, so it seems silly to have a tree sitting here with no one to love and water it. plus, save a tree, right?
i used to make christmas trees in college for my roommates and i, and i'm loving the idea of doign it again. these trees at neiman marcus were made out of feathers and metallic paper and these cool gold poofball things. i may go for something along those lines.

so, in the spirit of the holidays, here are some fun decorative ideas from everyone's favorite, martha stewart herself (whose site loads incredible slowly, i might add. beware.)

the amount of inspiring work at SOFA Chicago was incredible. looking back over my notes, i'm realizing how much amazing work i actually saw.

SOFA Chicago- part one

well, after an exhausting 6 days in chicago at the SOFA show, i am back home to process everything that happened there. it was a really amazing experience, like nothing i've seen before. i'm talking $250,000 pieces of art, no kidding. dale chihuly had pieces there! i felt like an imposter artist (i'm clearly not on any sort of level with dale chihuly!), but it was really inspiring to be around so much great work. unfortunately i wasn't allowed to take photos of anything other than my own booth, but i'm going to research the artist and gallery names that i scrawled on my little pad to find some images of my favorites from the show. so, more to come over these next few days!
