more hints about the project...

a pairing of kite prints? hmm.... what could we have in store for you??

here are some details:

since renee's and my booths will be next to each other at ICE this saturday, we decided to collaborate and do a print each, sold as a pair for $25.

$5 from each sale will go be donated to the georgia solar energy association, a non-profit that concentrates on renewable energy
(hence the kites. get it?)

and this is just the beginning........

wind power: sneak peek into something awesome

new drawing! new exercise

i had this idea the other day, for times when i'm feeling stumped and want to break through the artist's block (like writer's block).

i wrote down about 100 words (things, verbs, adjectives, actions, etc), cut them out, and put them in a cup. then i randomly picked 3 of them, and created a drawing using the 3 things on the slips of paper i chose. simple, eh?

well, here is the first installment of my little exercise. the words were: STRIPED, PINE CONE, and SHEEP. silly, yes, but so fun!

if you are feeling stuck, i suggest trying it. i think it's going to help my creativity immensely.

2 objects in relationship

my love of owls got the better of me tonight. here is a little project about how 2 objects (an owl and an egg) can be in relationship to each other. endless. over, under, below, above, in, out, next to, away from, missing, holding in hand, holding in mouth... drawings for another day!

day #9: what is relationship?

1.a connection, association, or involvement.
2.connection between persons by blood or marriage.
3.an emotional or other connection between people: the relationship between teachers and students.
4.a sexual involvement; affair.

how about our relationship to ourselves? to our world? do we have a relationship to every thing we think about? is there any way to NOT be in relationship to our thoughts? what about during meditation? what are you in relationship with then? the divine? the ultimate creator? nothing?
what is our relationship to inanimate objects? aren't we all the same anyway, so our relationship is that we ARE everything? there's no separation? aren't we all on this spinning ball of fire and water and mud and metal that we call the earth? what's our bigger relationship? to the universe? we are tiny. but we are everything. hm.

thing a day continued

{day 7- a VERY ugly drawing done with my right hand... for variation...}

so, my internet was down all weekend, which means i am posting the past 2 days projects today, plus whatever i create for today! i honestly don't know how people survive without the internet in their homes. maybe what that means is that i'm addicted to it.... hmmm....

{day 8- beginning of week #2: relationship}
project: find 2 random images from magazines and find relationships between them.

Day 6- playing with words

Today's project was to copy random sentences from various sources, cut them up, and see what new variations i came up with. fun!

Day 5

today i started a sculpture class taught by caroline douglas, and our first assignment, to get our brains moving, was to make a collage! i started thinking about how images in print can be so out of context compared to how they are in reality-- for example, the giant snowman standing on an elephant! i started thinking about the variety of ways in which images can be used to create entirely new realities. i'll be sure to post my sculptures that sprouted from this exercise as i complete them!

day 4: variation in a repeated image

16 images of myself later, I'm clear that there is a lot you can do with a repeated image. what a fun exercise!

day #3: variation in faces

there is so much variation in the way people look, even though we are all made up of the same basic parts: eyes, nose, mouth, ears.... amazing. it's also amazing to me how much a single individual's features can change as they age.
~~~~~~
a great book for variations in facial expressions and features: facial expressions: a visual reference for artists , by mark simon.
buy on amazon right here.
Create a Thing a Day- Day 1
inspired by keri smith and her wish jar journal, and prompted by my friend carol telling me i never post about my own work on my blog, i have decided to take on the challenge of creating a thing a day in my sketchbook, based around weekly themes. i am nervous about this, but i hope it's going to stretch my imagination and give new insight into my art-making experience!
Week #1: VARIATION
Day #1: all the drawing/coloring tools i have on or around my desk.
