lark& key gallery: 'songcatcher' show

i'm really excited to be part of this show at lark & key gallery in charlotte, NC, that opens tomorrow.

here's the premise of the show:

"songcatchers celebrate and record sound outside of a studio setting – collecting, teaching and promoting in order to preserve traditional forms of music. our first group show calls upon artists to become song catchers in the visual sense. offerings include art, pottery, jewelry – or whatever medium strikes a chord – celebrating the diversity of music and its creative influence on their work."

the show runs from july 4th - august 30th, and if you are in the area you can go to the opening reception on friday july 11th from 6-9pm.

it's sure to be an excellent grouping of artwork!!

happy valentine's day!

so, here we are, on this day of love. i will always be a valentine's day kind of girl. i love it. (not the mass-produced, commercialized part of it, but the real idea of it).

i found this on creature comforts this morning, and it got me thinking. i have plenty of love to give to the loved ones in my life (especially sweet ol' ryan, who's about to wake up and get his surprise ring! heee!), but how do i give love in the world? to strangers? just to be nice?

i love the ideas in this list, all about ways to make a difference in others' lives, with not much effort at all. all it takes is a little creativity. what a difference it would make in my life if i focused on creative ways to be nice to other people!

anyway, happy valentine's day! may it be filled with love and hugs and happiness for you. :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Happy New Year everyone! i took an unexpectedly long blogging break, but i am back in atlanta and ready to get back to it. and i have BIG NEWS:

I'M ENGAGED!!!!

ryan, the love of my entire life, asked me to marry him at midnight on new year's eve, at the beach in california. (and i said yes!)

and the ring is engraved with the date and everything. it was the most romantic thing i could've imagined. and completely unexpected. yet his whole family knew about it, and they kept it a complete secret! so, 2008 will now be infused with this wonderful beginning.

anyhow, happy new year, and i will be back to regular posting tomorrow!

christmas gifts galore

well, i've been busy busy busy making gifts for my family as usual this year-- here are some photos of what i've been working on:

i think my work might be moving in a new direction! i have discovered the joys of india ink in the past few weeks, and i'm loving it! this time of year always seems to be play time for me, and then after a refreshing break, january proves to be full of inspiration once again.

i'm going home to colorado on friday (yipee!) for a week, and then to california for 4 days to visit with ryan's wonderful family. i'll be back on the 1st (i may do some blogging in between... photos of christmas snow in colorado perhaps??), and then hopefully that january inspiration and excitement towards making things will kick in, and lots of new things will burst out of me!

(ICE stands for Indie Craft Experience...)

i'm so excited. this will be the first indie craft fair that ive' ever done! i've done plenty of fine art festivals, but not a crafty one, and i cannot wait. i have lots of things in the works for this show, to be revealed on this blog and on my flickr page in the coming weeks...

california dreamin

i am back from california, tanned and relaxed, the 4th of july is now over, and i am not at all ready to get back to work! ryan and i had a great vacation, and the wedding was lovely. above is a photo of tim (ryan's little bro) ad his new wife monique opening the painting that ryan and i gave them (ryan made the frame-- so awesome). they loved it.

tim and monique got married at the wayfarer's chapel in palos verdes, california, and it was gorgeous. the highlight of the trip for me: seeing whales spouting off the coast while at the church!! i'm not kidding. it was so awesome.

the wedding was beautiful. i love weddings. i'm such a girl. poor ryan got so much wedding talk this week......

and my personal favorites from the trip:

(i *heart* ryan!!)

memorial day festivities

every year on memorial day weekend, boulder turns into complete mayhem. the boulder creek festival attracts thousands of people, and then to finish off the weekend the bolder boulder 10k race begins first thing monday morning. as i was walking downtown yesterday, i took some photos of the craziness-- i saw a girl running in a hot pink 80's prom dress, a band of 8 year olds singing their hearts out outside the fire station and in front of a long row of port-o-potties (and they sounded good!), i visited the carnival (which was endlessly fascinating... ryan said he thinks i was probably a carnie in a past life :) he might be right...), corn dogs galore, and much much more. what fun!

and then, as always, it rained in the afternoon, and probably soaked thousands of festival-goers. all part of the fun of boulder on memorial day! ryan and i decided to risk a bbq in our backyard and got a little damp ourselves... due partly to the rain, and partly to the sprinklers that came on just as it started raining. how ridiculous.

here's ryan in the rain:

happy valentine's day

yes, i know it's a commercial holiday, but i still love it. i made valentine hearts for ryan and hung them all over the house before he woke up this morning. he loved it. later i'm making strawberries dipped in chocolate as a surprise when he gets home from his mcat course... yum!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

one of my oldest friends that i've known since i was 5 got married last night, a new year's even wedding! it was great fun, and jennie looked beautiful.

i hope you all had a safe new year's eve and wish you a more spectacular 2007 than you can imagine!

here are a few of my intentions that i've set for myself:

1. to be accepting and non-judgmental
2. to connect with the divine on a regular and more sacred basis
3. to commit and devote to my yoga practice
4. to listen to my body and intuition
5. to move from a place of passion and inspiration in place of fear

and a few "goals" if you will:

1. to write and illustrate a children's book
2. to have my artwork in 3 new galleries
3. to have a show at the Firehouse Art Center with my friend Kristen
4. to make $60,000 (!! if i write it, it'll be more likely to happen, so i'm told... i'm putting it out there!)
5. to be published in a magazine

Wish me luck! And best of luck and all the good wishes in the world to you. :)
