daily painting, 06.18.08: it's a gocco this time!

today's daily painting is not actually a painting, but a sweet little gocco print! it's called 'the starfish collector,' and i think it's just the cutest thing i've ever made!

and it's not really even just one thing-- there are multiples!
so this is a daily that just keeps on giving! aren't you lucky. :)

daily painting, 06.16.08: 'ketchup & mustard'

today's daily painting is inspired by all the little red birds i see here in georgia and the sun that beats down every day!

this one is called 'ketchup & mustard' (because of the colors... get it?) and is 6x8", done in acrylic and india ink.

don't you have a wall that needs some livening? :)

daily painting, 06.12.08: slug coasters

today's daily painting is really 4 miniature paintings in one set! i was urged to make some more 'georgia slug coasters' by someone i met at ICE this past weekend, so here they are. i forgot how much fun they are to make!

these coasters are 4x4", hand-painted on wood, covered with glossy resin for a water and heat-proof finish. they are so cute in person, and full of vibrancy!!

[buy this set right here!]

daily painting, 06.10.08: 'charm city'

i'm in a daily drawing kind of mood lately, i think, instead of painting. i like the variation and am thinking of changing the daily paintings to 'daily artwork,' but i think that name is sort-of BORING. do you have any suggestions for what to call them? i like just 'dailies,' but someone we all know and love uses that title on her ever-popular blog. :) (oh, erin, you have all the good ideas!)

anyway, here is the daily drawing: it's called 'charm city,' and it is a limited edition print of just 10! don't you want this little cutie gracing your walls?
you can buy the print right here.

daily painting, 06.09.08: 'leaf ladder'

this is actually not a painting but a drawing of the day, but hey, isn't it good to shake things up again every now and then?

this is available as a print in a limited edition of 10.
[buy the original here].

*ps-- sorry for my lack of interesting things to say about really anything today. i think i'm still semi braindead from saturday's sun-filled day!

daily painting, 06.05.08: i wish i were a dragonfly

yesterday's daily painting was skipped because i was working on my collaboration with renee.

but here is the painting for today, and it is a cute one! this llama wants to be a dragonfly, and he's slurping them up hoping it'll aid the transformation.

it is 6x8", acrylic, india ink, and linoleum block printing
on wood, and you can buy the original right here.

daily painting, 06.03.08, "roar"

a silly one for today's daily painting, this is called "roar." i think i'm thinking of cooler weather, what with the pompom hat and icey blue snow creature! did i mention it's been in the 90s here in atlanta? and HUMID. my poor little colorado body is not used to it!!

sigh. there's a long summer ahead of me......

daily painting, 06.02.08: oh, ferris wheel

ack! i cannot believe it's already 5:00. where has this day gone? i was so excited to spend most of the day working (as this is the first day i'm officially not nannying and have whole days to myself! eep!).... but instead it's been spent picking up work from young blood gallery, making a run to ikea for napkins and place mats (new projects in store soon!), and then becoming an official georgia girl by getting a georgia license plate for my car. saturday i got my georgia driver's license and had to surrender my colorado one... that was a sad day.

anyway, this is why it's 5:00 and i'm only just posting my daily painting! whew. tomorrow shall be different. more creating and less errands!!

so this sweet little painting is called "oh, ferris wheel" and is 6x8". it is painted with acrylic and india ink on wood and is just lovely in person.

you can buy the original right here!!

daily painting: sometimes you have to make a bad painting in order to make the good paintings

ha ha! sometimes you have to make a really bad piece of work in order to let the good work come out. and instead of getting all distraught about it today, i thought it would be more beneficial to laugh about it and post it here! this daily painting is NOT for sale-- it is absolutely hideous. :)
i am going to paint over it just as soon as it's dry, but i wanted to post it here because i think it's important. and here's why:

everything you see on the internet is so finished and perfect and inspiring, and it can often feel defeating when you're sitting in your studio without an idea, or working on an ugly painting, or feeling like everyone else is more talented than you (ok, me.) the comforting part is that i am almost certain all artists go through these feelings at times, and it's nice to get a glimpse of it in others' lives. not that i wish ruts and bad paintings on other artists, but i like knowing that it happens to other people, too, because i know i'm not alone in my doubts and ups and downs and ugly, embarrassing work.

so, here's to making ugly paintings on fridays!!!!
i hope you all have a splendid weekend. i will have better daily paintings to show you next week. (i hope!!)

daily painting, 05.23.08: i am so in love with you

awwwwwww. this is a little homage to ryan, my dear one :) he came in and made fun of this painting, and i told him that it's him and me and that he's wearing a bear hat, and he didn't know what to say after that. ha ha! except i don't really have blond hair. oh well.

this daily painting is 6x8" and is done in acrylic, india ink, and linoleum block printing on wood. isn't it cute??

{buy the original right here.}

daily painting, 05.22.08: birds like the springtime

i can't tell you how much fun i'm having with these daily paintings! today's painting is in honor of the beautiful weather here in atlanta. i love springtime! the magnolia trees are beginning to bloom, we have had much rain lately, and everything is green green green.

you can get the original painting, called "birds like the springtime," right here. it is 6x6" and done in acrylic and india ink on wood. ($75)

daily painting #1

today marks the day that i begin something i've wanted to do for a long time and have been procrastinating: DAILY PAINTINGS.

since i work small most of the time anyway, this is going to fit in nicely with what is comfortable to me, but also hopefully stretch me in some directions that are new and challenging.

and the fun part for you: they will all be for sale!! and since they will mostly be on the small side, they will be affordable! which means you can own an original piece of art and you won't empty your wallet doing it.

sound good? ok. good.

so, i will be posting the paintings (i think sometimes they will be drawings, too...) here on the blog, along with my other normal posts, and i will also post them on my website.

please do let me know what you think. and if you see a piece you can't live without, snap it up!!

the painting above: "abundant thoughts", 8x8", $85.00
